Memories With Mom

As we began the second hike of the day in the Grand Canyon, we knew that the sun would be going down on our walk back, so we would have to hurry. We were the last group to enter the park before they closed to view the South Rim. The South Rim trail is known to be one of the best sites in the Grand Canyon. After a long thirteen-mile hike, we arrive to the top where we are presented with one of the prettiest views I have ever seen. I would have never imagined rocks to be so eye-catching. Looking at the yellow sun hitting off

the tops of the rock as the sun was about to set was a dream come true. My mom and I made sure to take a bunch of photos, while in awe of the view, forgetting our exhaustion. We were the last of the group to start heading back and everything was going great until, it wasn’t. I am walking in front of my mom and all the sudden, I heard a thud. I immediately turn around and my mom is nowhere to be seen. I start to panic. “Mom! Where are you?” I am yelling.

The group had gone too far ahead and there was no one to help me. I started to trace my steps, continuing to yell, trying to calm myself down. It was fifteen minutes until I eventually found a cave. I run inside and the fear that was running through my veins faded away and all I felt was relief. My moment of fear was completely unnecessary when I look up and see the reason for her smile. I go and sit next to my mom, knowing that she is okay.

It was the most sensational sunset you could ever imagine. The sky filled with colors of pink, purple, orange, and yellow with clouds so fluffy, they looked like huge cotton balls. Moments like these are the ones I live for. Besides the fact that my mom almost scared me to death, it didn’t matter once I saw that she was okay. We spend the next three days exploring the Grand Canyon, then traveling to Sedona where we finish off our trip in Arizona. This trip was a once in a lifetime experience, and to experience it with my mom made it even memorable. Not only did it allow me to create a stronger bond with my mom but allowed me to create unforgettable memories. I strongly encourage a trip like this, because not only does it create such important memories, but it helps you appreciate nature through a different perspective.
